An overhauled vehicle (assigned HD) appeared at the 2006 New York Auto Show for the 2007 model year. As in the past, the HD sold under the Hyundai Avante name in its South Korean home market. It utilized a revived appearance from the 1960s and 1970s called “coke bottle styling”.

The motor arrangement included 1.6-Gamma and 2.0 L Beta II gas inline-four motors, and a 1.6 L turbodiesel inline-four. All motors included improved efficiency. A five-speed manual transmission was standard with a discretionary four-speed programmed.
